Reality Behind 48MP Redmi Note 7 Pro Camera - Artificial Ali

India's No.1 smartphone selling brand Xiaomi has announced another mid-range device Redmi Note 7 pro on Feb 28th. Redmi Note 7 Pro is an interesting device as its specifications are high enough to make a smartphone worth the price. The biggest thing here is the 48MP camera, Does it really have 48MP or a gimmick? ↙

Before we get into the details of 48MP camera lets talk about, how camera sensors really work? Usually, pictures are captured by Red, Green, and Blue color pixels using camera Sensor. A camera sensor is covered by a filter of 25% red, 25% blue and 50% green pixels in a single layer. These pixels are used to capture true colors based on the number of pixels in the camera sensor.

But Redmi Note 7 Pro uses Sony IMX586  camera sensor supporting enhanced imaging on smartphones. Instead of a single filter, Sony has used Quad Byer color filter array which technically uses adjacent 2*2 pixels of the same color. So the Sony IMX586 sensor uses 4 layered pixels of  Red, Green, and Blue. Take a look at the picture to know how pixels are arranged.

Sony has claimed that these 4 pixels will convert the image using Array conversion to a single picture.

These 1.6 μm pixels are efficient to capture pictures under low light conditions with low noise. When in day times Sony IMX 586 camera sensor performs built-in original signal processing technique which performs array conversion to obtain a high definition 48MP image. 48  megapixels means in terms of 48/4 = 12 megapixels. So it is basically a 12MP camera uses the techniques of Sony IMX586 camera sensor to get a detailed image like a 48MP camera.

When it comes to what differs the point of buying a smartphone which uses 12MP camera having Sony IMX586 sensor than others. Here are some points
  • Sony IMX586 sensor captures high-quality images even in low light conditions.
  • Details are most accurate when you zoom in the picture compared to any other 12MP camera sensors.
  • Redmi Note 7 Pro is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor which you cannot find in any other mid-range smartphone. Only Qualcomm Snapdragon supports 48MP camera sensors.
  • Qualcomm Fastcharge 4 and 4000maH battery is added advantage for the Note 7 Pro.
  • Aurora Design and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 make the Redmi Note 7 pro to look elegant and powerful.
Apart from the camera, the rest of the specifications are good to buy a smartphone like this. Even this 48MP camera sensor of a 12MP camera is better when compared to other 12MP cameras in the market. Now you know the truth behind the 48MP camera. Subscribe for more like this.
